Believe it or not, the city of Birmingham is home to an impressive list of celebrities. From worldwide rock stars, to presenters and sportsmen, you may be surprised to learn who’s a true Brummie! We even have the ‘Walk of Stars’ on Broad Street to celebrate and recognise some of our local talent. Follow us as we uncover some of the celebrities from our treasured city …


The Musicians

Perhaps the most recognised celeb from Birmingham is Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne, however he’s not the only musician to hail from Birmingham. Singers Laura Mvula and Jamelia, as well as Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne were all born and bred in Brum.


The Actors

Some of the nations most-loved actors and actresses grew up right here in Birmingham. Dame Julie Walters star of Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia and the Harry Potter series, was born on the outskirts of the city in Bearwood; whilst The Theory of Everything actress Felicity Jones comes from the model village of Bournville and Homeland actor David Harewood was born in Small Heath.


The Presenters

 It’s hard not to recognise the dialect of a true Brummie, so if you’re a TV fan, you may well have already spotted a presenter or two with that unmistakable accent. From Big Brother’s Emma Willis, to This Morning’s Alison Hammond, it seems the nation is a secret fan of our bold Birmingham tones.


The Comedians

 Although from Dudley and West Bromwich, (the Black Country) Birmingham has very much adopted funny men Sir Lenny Henry and Frank Skinner as their own. Both are celebrated on the Walk of Stars and rightfully so!


Finally, we can’t forget the sports stars …

Home to a number of top football clubs and the prestigious Edgbaston Cricket ground, its no wonder there’s quite a lengthy list of sports stars from Birmingham. From footballer Walter Abbott, to England cricketer Moeen Ali, the city’s rich sporting history really is all around.

So there you have it! Birmingham certainly has lots of talent to shout about with some of the most recognised British stars across music, film, TV and sports, making it just another reason we can’t get enough of our favourite city!
