Oh Christmas. There’s something pretty special about this time of year! From twinkling city lights, to the scent of spiced mulled wine filling the air, you can’t deny Christmas certainly is the season to make the most of all things festive. If we could only recommend one thing to do in the run up to December 25th, it would be to wrap up and step into Christmas at Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market.
Taking centre stage in the heart of our beautiful city, it’s the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria and with 120 stalls, the market promises all kinds of delights to indulge the senses and really get you feeling festive. Here are three reasons you simply have to visit …
1. It’s Christmas time in the city
Located in Victoria Square and the surrounding streets, the market really is right in the centre of Birmingham. Pop on your favourite winter coat and get ready to explore and soak up the atmosphere with all your friends and family. Showcasing an abundance of shimmering fairy lights, the sounds of festive cheer from other merry-makers and the inviting scents of melted chocolate, Christmas time in the city is a must, even if just for the night.
2. Food glorious food
We’d be lying if we said food (and drink) weren’t our top priority when visiting the market. The star of the show is undoubtedly the German Bratwurst and with stands dotted around the length of the market, it’s difficult not to be tempted. Say cheers to the season with a traditional German beer or Gluhwein (that’s hot mulled wine) and if you’re partial to something sweet, there are Nutella crepes, handmade fudge, chocolate covered fruits, gingerbread, (we could go on) all ready and waiting to indulge your sweet side.
3. The gift of discovery
Nestled amongst the food and drink stands are craft stalls all offering their handmade goods, so it’s the perfect time to do a little Christmas shopping. Whilst we’re definitely fans of exploring Selfridges Christmas department, discovering original handmade gifts (and even better, gifting them) really is magical. From candles to jewellery, decorations to toys, there’s something to cater for everyone on your gift list.
If you reside in the city, or are on a trip to the Midlands, you can visit the Birmingham Christmas Market daily between 10am and 9pm, from now until Sunday 24th of December 2017. Enjoy and have yourself a merry little Christmas!← Back to all posts
